I
Graduated, then bought a one way ticket to Africa
Hi, as you may well know, I am Troy McNatt. I graduated from Tennessee
Technological University in Mechanical Engineering. God has been very
active in my life and I have been a part of short term mission work for
most of my life. I have been given the opportunity to give it a shot long
term. I am spending the next two years, fall 2003 to fall 2005, as a missionary
apprentice in Cape Town, South Africa. I am an apprentice to Brian Davis,
a missionary who has worked in the inner city of the states for 8 years
prior to his commitment abroad. None of my work is engineering related,
so that is on hold for now. This period in my life is to explore the possibilities
of doing mission work full time in the future, without having to have
formal education in missions. This apprenticeship is a great way to get
exposure and experience in this field, in addition to aiding in the work
already going. The work here is primarily evangelistic and it is in the
urban area of Cape Town. In the states, we would refer to this as working
in the inner city. This site will hopefully give you insight into the
life of a missionary and the work that he is involved in. There will be
information of both missiology and theology, the people that I work with,
and some of the fun sites you can see here in the Cape area. I will try
to help you understand my experience with culture shock and also the blessing
of sharing the word of God.
Note that I have included a broad range of info about the team here in
Cape Town. I am not involved in all of it of course. Here is my basic
involvement: I live with Paul Dankers and his family, Brian Davis is my
supervisor and most of my learning and guidance comes from him, Honore
is my work partner and much of my practical time is with him, I work in
Westlake primarily, but I am also involved in the children and youth programs
of the False Bay Church. This will give you a good bearing as to where
to look for info about certain areas of my life here.
